Sunset on the Snake River

Anywhere in the park is a great place to watch the sunset. The sun sets behind the Tetons and makes for incredible light changes.
We chose to park next to the Snake River with a direct view of the Tetons.

It was a long time to sunset so we enjoyed some seltzers and passed the time with cribbage

Sunrise at Signal Mountain

Signal Mountain is the highest point in Grand Teton National Park that you can drive to. if you wish you can also take a hiking trail to the top.

This is a great spot to watch the sunrise as it will pop over the mountains and illuminate the valley. Once first light occurred we got to watch tons of wildlife leave the woods and start heading out over the fields it was so special.

5:38 AM

6:53 AM

Sunrise and sunset are when are wildlife are their most active. We saw lots of wildlife from the top of Signal Mountain but once we left and headed back through the park the number of elk and other animals out was the most we saw on our entire trip.

Seeing sunrise during your trip to Grand Teton is a must.

Washington, D.C.

August 25th - 26th 2017

For my birthday this year Leah surprised me with a trip to Washington D.C. and it was absolutely incredible. The first time I went to D.C. it was with a school trip in 8th grade, circa 2010 (7 years ago!). The year after that school trip I begged my parents to take us back on a family vacation- that didn't go well. Since taking that school trip all I've wanted to do was go back and I definitely wasn't subtle about it. Leah is so good that she planned an entire trip to one of my favorite places without me knowing...I'm talking so surprised that I had no idea until we got to the airport.

We flew in early Saturday morning and flew home late Sunday night. It was the perfect weekend trip, one of my favorite memories, and the best birthday present I have ever gotten.

One of the best parts about D.C. is that you don't need a car to get anywhere (public transportation woohoo!) and the majority of museums are free. You really only need to worry about airfare, food, and lodging.

Once we landed we stopped at Starbucks, got coffee, then hopped on the Metro to head to the National Mall.

The Lincoln Memorial

First stop: The Lincoln Memorial built to honor our 16th President. The memorial was first opened May 30th, 1922!

In this temple, as in the hearts of the people for whom he saved the Union, the memory of Abraham Lincoln is enshrined forever.

The Vietnam Veterans War Memorial

the national world war II memorial

the price of freedom. Freedom wall holds 4,048 gold stars. Each gold star represents one hundred American service personnel who died or remain missing in the war. The 405,399 American dead and missing from World War II are second only to the loss of more than 620,000 Americans during our Civil War.

After walking all day and exploring it was time to head to where we'd be staying, a tiny house! Click on the images to enlarge them!

We spent the night at an amazing restaurant and then continued exploring the National Mall- it was absolutely magical.

We spent the next day in and out of museums and then spent the afternoon on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial before our late night flight.

Horseshoe Bend & The Four Corners

Tuesday March 14th, 2017

Horseshoe Bend and The Four Corners were some of the top things on our list. We had seen so many pictures of Horseshoe bend that we had to see it up close and personal. So we decided to take the trek out, stopping at Horseshoe Bend first and then the Four Corners. In total it was 7-8 hours of driving the majority through the Hopi and Navajo reservations! Everyone, at least once in their lifetime, should drive through this area. Beautiful beyond words but also plagued by extreme poverty.

Horseshoe bend for those who aren't familiar is on the Colorado River and is in Page AZ. It's extremely popular so consider picking an 'off' time when you go. Also, keep in mind that depending on the time of day your pictures will come out differently! There's a great website that explains the best times to go depending on what kind of pictures you want. You can find the link to that website here.

Besides the Grand Canyon Horseshoe bend was one of the most crowded places we went! Everyone had the same idea as us. We ended up breaking away from the mass of people and walked along the edge. Doing this was one of the best ideas we had. We had a section to ourselves and it was wonderful.

From our secluded spot- all the other tourists!

Horseshoe bend was an awesome way to start our day and the four corners was a great way to finish it.

Sedona, AZ

We started our day nice and early with a hike at Devils Bridge and then headed into town to explore. Make sure you explore all the nooks and crannies here there's tons of secret spots!

After exploring town and grabbing a bite at the Pink Java Cafe (10/10 would recommend) we headed over to the Sedona Airport Overlook.

Northampton, MA

Northampton Massachusetts is the opposite of your typical New England small town.
